• Chaliyam Fort: The area is noted for the ruins of the historic Chaliyam Fort, which was constructed by the Portuguese in 1530 and later famously besieged, captured, and demolished by the Zamorin of Calicut’s forces in 1571.
• Kerala’s First Railway Line: Chaliyam (as Beypore Railway Station) was the terminus of the first railway line laid in Kerala (from Tirur) in 1861.
